چکیده

In this paper we discuss the numerical analysis of an upscaled (core scale) model describing the transport, precipitation and dissolution of solutes in a porous medium. The particularity lies in the modeling of the reaction term, especially the dissolution term, which has amultivalued character. We consider theweak formulation for the upscaled equation and provide rigorous stability and convergence results for both the semi-discrete (time discretization) and the fully discrete schemes. In doing so, compactness arguments are employed. Mathematics Subject Classification 35A35 · 65L60 · 65J20

Numerical Analysis for an Upscaled Model for Dissolution and Precipitation in Porous Media

In this paper, we discuss some numerical schemes for an upscaled (core scale) model describing the transport, precipitation and dissolution of solutes in a porous medium. We consider two weak formulations, conformal and mixed. We discuss the time discretization in both formulations and prove the convergence of the resulting schemes. A numerical study is presented for the mixed formulation.

Investigation of Reversibility of Asphaltene Precipitation and Deposition for an Iranian Crude Oil

In this work, the precipitation and re-dissolution of asphaltenes were studied for an Iranian relatively heavy crude oil. A series of experiments were designed and carried out to quantitatively examine the reversibility of asphaltenes precipitation upon the change in the solvent concentration along with the temperature. n-Heptane was used as the precipitant, and a temperature range of 30 to...

Convergence Analysis of Mixed Numerical Schemes for Reactive Flow in a Porous Medium

This paper deals with the numerical analysis of an upscaled model describing the reactive flow in a porous medium. The solutes are transported by advection and diffusion and undergo precipitation and dissolution. The reaction term and, in particular, the dissolution term have a particular, multivalued character, which leads to stiff dissolution fronts. We consider the Euler implicit method for ...

To Express Required CT-Scan Resolution for Porosity and Saturation Calculations in Terms of Average Grain Sizes

Despite advancements in specifying 3D internal microstructure of reservoir rocks, identifying some sensitive phenomenons are still problematic particularly due to image resolution limitation. Discretization study on such CT-scan data always has encountered with such conflicts that the original data do not fully describe the real porous media. As an alternative attractive approach, one can recon...

Crystal Dissolution and Precipitation in Porous Media: L-contraction and Uniqueness

In this note we continue the analysis of the pore-scale model for crystal dissolution and precipitation in porous media proposed in [C. J. van Duijn and I. S. Pop, Crystal dissolution and precipitation in porous media: pore scale analysis, J. Reine Angew. Math. 577 (2004), 171–211]. There the existence of weak solutions was shown. We prove an L1-contraction property of the pore-scale model. As ...
